Haley Tilt is an intern at the Philly Free School. Before this internship, Haley was a high school history teacher in Baltimore (2016-2018) and worked for a Baltimore City Councilor doing public policy and community organizing work (2018-2019).
As a teacher, Haley primarily taught through project-based learning. Though she saw many of her students become passionate about learning through their projects, she was still concerned about the hierarchy of traditional school settings. After reading lots about free schools, she decided it was time to learn through experience, starting at the Philly Free School. She’s also passionate about social justice work and anti-racist organizing, and plans to support these efforts while she’s in Philadelphia.
While she’s not at PFS or blogging about her experience, Haley loves cooking, reading, dancing, and finding any excuse to go outside.
